How we treat your data

Your journal is personal, so here's the plain-words version of what happens to it — no legal footnotes, just what we store, what we never do, and how you can take your journal with you.

What we store

Every capture you share — text, a voice note, a photo — is stored the way you gave it to us. We don't encrypt entries end-to-end, and we won't pretend otherwise: the whole point of kagame is that an AI actually reads what you share to organize it for you, and a fully locked box would defeat that. What we do promise: every connection to kagame is encrypted in transit, and your backups are encrypted too.

What we never do

We never sell your data, to anyone, for any reason. We never use your entries to train AI models — that's written into our terms, not just implied. The AI providers that organize your entries receive them through their paid business APIs, only to produce results for you. And we don't run ads, so there's no reason to profile you for one.

Who can see it

There's no team feature and no shared workspace, and your account is walled off from every other account. Every request to your data requires a login. The AI reads it too: it reads what you capture to organize it, and it reads your history to answer your questions, write your briefings and reviews, and spot patterns — that processing is the product, not a leak.

How you leave

Export your journal as Markdown, PDF, or CSV, any time, from Settings → Data — your entries with their photos and audio, your life areas, and your timeline. Delete your account and every entry, photo, and setting is deleted right away — no grace period to wait out. Our encrypted backups expire on their own within about 30 days, and the privacy policy lists the few small records we keep after deletion, and why. That's the real test of an honest exit: can you leave clean, with what's yours? Yes.

Where it lives

Your data is stored on servers in the European Union — Helsinki, Finland — under GDPR. The AI providers that process your entries to organize them may be outside the EU; the privacy policy names every one.

What the AI touches

When you capture something, the AI reads it to file it — a mood, a workout, an idea. When you ask a question, or when your daily briefing, reviews, and pattern notes are written, it reads across your history to answer well. If you'd rather it stayed hands-off, turn AI processing off entirely in Settings → Data: your entries still save, they just stop being organized for you, and the AI features pause until you turn it back on.
